It just seemed like the thing to do, though we didn't talk about that first, and I regret that it didn't occur to me to discuss that part. It turns out he's fine with that, but you never know what someone could be uncomfortable with. However, I do not enjoy receiving oral sex. He brought it up. I didn't like the idea, but I agreed to try it. I was uncomfortable and unaroused.

To this day I am still not aroused by it, but I did try it. Our first vaginal sex was initiated by him. I had concerns about becoming pregnant. It was important to both of us to use condoms. That was refreshing to me that this was also important to him. It made me feel comfortable and respected. I do enjoy vaginal sex. I broached the topic of wanting to try anal sex. I became curious when he accidentally, and only slightly, stimulated my anus with his knuckles while fingering my vagina.

It felt good, so I pointed it out and asked him to do it again. It felt nice, so I was curious about anal sex.

The first time, it didn't hurt, but yeah Though I would say vaginal sex felt pretty weird to me the first time too. I get very wet when I am aroused. When we tried anal sex, I was very aroused already and some vaginal fluids had dripped down my anus to lubricate it. I also requested he penetrate me vaginally first to make sure he was nicely lubricated. He is also uncircumcised, so that may help as well. I'll go on to note: vaginal before anal, never anal then vaginal.

Germs, bleh! I do have a high sex drive. We usually have sex once a day, occasionally twice. I enjoy sex with my husband. I am not interested in involving any other people in our sex life neither is he. It is important to me that sex is only the two of us, that we are both enjoying ourselves, and that neither of us is in pain.

It concerns me that someone would do something sexually that they don't enjoy, and that someone else would be willing to perform a sexual act on someone they love if they knew the person was not aroused by it and was also perhaps in pain because of it. The most arousing thing to me is experiencing my husband's arousal. I couldn't possibly imagine doing something to him that he didn't enjoy, even if he was submitting to it as a "gift". The concept of a sexual act being a "gift" is disgusting to me.

Thanks for affirming what I keep saying - it does not have to hurt - and if it does you are doing it wrong. A well-articulated statement. As a woman I too enjoy the penetration of anal sex. It was pleasurable with my first husband. Although his dick was large, he was respectful.

My second husband however did not care for it. The exterior stimulation aspect he enjoyed yet more was not for him. Thereafter I dated someone who clearly was hung up on the size of his dick very large and on the power aspect.

There was not an ounce of pleasure; he got dumped. Same woman; three men. Three wholly different sides. I believe in part that there is much to be said for the relationship of the man and the woman. Curiously the author and I have something else in common: We simply do not enjoy receiving oral sex but giving it is an absolute turn on.

It seems to me that each person is unique in their tastes. Some mesh with some and not with others. As with all things, the key remains in the one word so often forgotten: respect. If anal is so great for the woman, and not just about pleasing the man or appearing to be a sex goddess They know womens bodies, are all about female pleasure, enjoy g-spot stimulation and penetration, yet not at all big on the penetrative anal sex.

I would say that for the vast majority of women, anal sex IS a gift for the man. Its seen as daring and sexy, the forbidden thing that a sexually uninhibited whether she actually is or not sexual wildcat would do in bed.

A male fantasy to fulfill. Much like the noises that women make in bed that do not correspond with their own orgasms, its mostly hype.

Usually woman to woman. Here's a link to Tristan's "Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women" it has chapters for both hetero and lesbian couples.

Many of us are much more sexual, adventurous and have a trust based as well as pleasure based relationship with our partners. Not being afraid of any sexual act that isn't just Missionary-Penis-in-Vagina for three minutes and then done and requires NO work, effort or imagination from the woman also helps, too.

So I posted the June 5 comment. I am a woman and the pleasure I gained from anal sex was genuine. Have since completed a 'facial' video with my lover and it was great fun. It is obvious that we enjoyed ourselves.

It's all about individual choice and the willingness to try new things and decide whether it works or not. I have obsessed thoughts about anal sex. I think it psychological roots and I need to find this out. My religion does not allow this act and this is enough for me to avoid it as I trust God. But getting rid of these thoughts is not just an issue of knowing I should avoid them.

Reading this article was helpful. My mind might have been programmed that women who give anal to their partner give it as a gift or sign of love. And human beings want to be loved. When women do have anal sex, the overwhelming majority do so at the request of their male partner.

And men overwhelmingly report positive experiences following performing anal sex on a female partner, while more than half of the women who have received anal sex describe it as an unpleasant experience they probably wouldn't repeat. There are paintings and etchings from long ago in Japan, China, and Europe — as well as ancient erotic drawings and pottery from the Mediterranean and South America — depicting men performing anal sex on women. In some Polynesian cultures, anal sex was practiced explicitly as a means of birth control, just as today some adolescents regard anal sex as a means to prevent conception regardless of the increased risks for transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

But for married and committed couples, for whom disease and pregnancy aren't a significant concern, how can we explain the prevalence of this increasing male fascination with anal sex? After all, over the past few decades, heterosexual anal sex rates have climbed. In the '50s, anal sex was reported by fewer than fifteen percent of the population. Modern overall rates suggest that around a third of men have performed anal sex on a woman and slightly fewer women have received anal sex, and these rates are higher among sexually active adults in their 20s.

If you've asked yourself or a friend , "Why do men like anal sex? Aside from this, there is no relevant evolutionary argument, as anal sex, of course, produces no heirs. Anal sex and the desire to try it serves different purposes for men. The strongest and most common argument men voice is that a woman who will engage in anal sex is inherently arousing to a man. Such a woman, in embracing anal sex, embraces it with no possible intention of getting pregnant. It is sex, at its rawest.

For a man, anal sex with a woman is her allowing him to play Star Trek and venture into uncharted territory. Even if it isn't where no man has gone before, it is still something novel, uncommon and special in its rarity.

The current study has limitations worth noting. First, as with many qualitative approaches, the sample size was small. This, and the fact that the majority of participants were ethnic minority women recruited through community-based HIV testing and outpatient drug treatment programs, limits the generalizability of the findings. However, given the statistics on HIV incidence and prevalence in minority women, the sample was also a strength of the study as these are the women who are most at risk for HIV infection from unprotected heterosexual anal intercourse.

Focus groups are well suited to identifying the range and limits of a specific experience. But it is important to remember the limits of focus group data.

While focus groups are very good at uncovering the range of experience, they are not good at uncovering how common any one experience might be. This is because not every person was asked or required to answer every question. Participation was also limited to English-speaking women, and participants were low-income women. Additionally, the women were willing to discuss a stigmatized behavior in a focus group setting. Therefore, this study does not necessarily represent the views of women who may feel uncomfortable discussing anal intercourse in a group setting.

There was also a methodological finding in this study concerning how questions about anal sex and anal intercourse are phrased. A small number of women gave contradictory answers to the screening questions concerning penile-anal penetration and anal intercourse. This suggests that questions must be carefully worded when studying this behavior.

This study provides insight for understanding how women perceive receptive anal intercourse with male partners and why they engage in anal intercourse. Future research should focus on two of the findings from this study. Second, more work is needed on the gray area of consent or lack thereof for novel or exotic sexual behaviors that are unplanned and perhaps new experiences.

What constitutes consent for a new experience such as anal intercourse, the first time it happens? Or when it is unplanned and not discussed prior to engaging in sexual activity?

Whether the most recent experience of anal intercourse is negative or positive may determine whether the woman will engage in anal intercourse in the future, but does not really answer the question as to whether she consented to it the first time. Given the potential health risks from anal intercourse, further inquiry into this sexual behavior is warranted. National Center for Biotechnology Information , U. Archives of Sexual Behavior.
